Salomon Trail 20 Running Backpack Review
Material and Ventilation
The Salomon Trail 20 is made from lightweight Riptop material making it extremely durable while keeping the overall weight down.
The pack includes Salomon’s Airvent Agility back panel which focuses on a balance between stability, lightness and comfort. Small amounts of EVA pads are located at strategic contact points on your back to provide maximum comfort and protection. These pads also provide a ventilation channel to allow moisture to escape. These are perforated to provide a maximum amount of ventilation. Combined with highly wicking fabrics that help to minimise or reduce sweat.
The straps have a3D mesh back to them which allows more air to circulate. You get an adjustable chest strap and padded hip belt. The hip belt has pockets on either side which are handy for storing keys, phones or energy products. The Trail 20 has what Salomon refer to as “stragetically place fabric’ around the straps to increase ventilation and reduce friction on your shoulders and neck. If you’ve even run with a backpack before, you’ll now howe easy it can be to get rubbing injuries so this is a definite plus for the product.
The Salomon’s outer dimensions are 48cm long, 24cm tall and 15 cm deep.
Weight and Capacity
The Salamon Trail 20 weighs 382g making one of the lightest back packs we’ve seen. The capacity is 20 litres, although there is no option to expand this the backpack would certain suit someone who travels light. If you’re luck enough to be able to store most of your kit at work, this will make the perfect companion for your run to work.
The Salomon Trail 20 has a sleeve to hold a hydration bladder at the back, although the hose must be feed through the zips as opposed to a dedicated pocket.
The Salomon Trail 20 is an ideal backpack for people running to work who like to travel light. If you do need to carry more, you should consider a different larger backpack. You will however struggle to find a product which matches the weight and strength of the Trail 20.
- Extremely lightweight
- Good ventilation and breathability
- Comfortable to wear for long distance runs
- Limited compression straps
- Needs more internal pockets
